Though Powerdynamo Systems provide (in most cases) more lighting output than the stock system, this output is not unlimited and in most cases a H4 60/65W headlight bulb is too much for the small system!

The result of overloading the system is poor battery charge or even drain of same, especially when driving in town (many instances of low revs).

Take a look at the following graphs which show the output of various of our systems.

Our smallest system is the one with 103mm rotor with internal pickup.

You get the typical 60W (40W headlight, 10 taillight, instrument bulbs) at around 2200 revs. Before this, battery voltage is consumed. Remember that you also have stoplight, flasher, horn!

If you use a 60/65W headlight, you easily end up at 80W which will need (a constant!) 2600 revs to break even.  This config in 6 Volts has even less output for lighting (ignition is same)


12V System with rotor 103mm and external pickup
You get 80W (60/65W headlight, 10W taillight and a few indicator bulbs) only at about 2000 revs. Below this battery (so present) is discharged. Remember you also have stop lights, horn, flasher... The full 150W are available only at 5500 revs/min.

12V Systems rotor 112mm (or 128mm), internal pickup
You get 80W (60/65W headlight, 10W taillight and a few indicator bulbs) only at about 1500 revs. Below this battery (so present) is discharged. Remember you also have stop lights, horn, flasher... The full 180W are available only at 4500 revs/min.

Here not all versions are listed. Some rotor 112mm which for ignition purposes lack 2 or 3 magnets naturally have less output.
Systems with external pickup have more output than the ones with internal, but often space is limited for the system and the internal one is needed (and neater).
