adding an advance unit to 2-stroke systems with internal sensor?

All our 2-stroke systems are fixed timing systems, that is they do not contain an advance control unit with special advance characteristics.  However, there is some inbuild characteristics in those systems which easer starting by firing first nearer to TDC. You find detail on this here

First and formost you need to know what characteristics your ignition should follow, that is what retard angle before TDC and at what revolutions (see the graphs below as examples).  It is possible to implement your own curves (up to 16!).

Responsibility for those bespoke curves (whether those are effective and do not inflict harm to man and/or machine) is completely yours. Same goes for the curves already in the unit. We can not know whether they would be good for your project. This is your task and your sole responsibility.

There are 7 curves in the advance unit delivered for this option. Details see below. Beware, those curves may not suit your application!
Better send us the curves you need (please know that this requires some knowledge and normally a dynometer to test your engine)

To add advance control to a Powerdynamo System with internal sensor you will need our upgrade kit 78 88 999 00. Or, if you order the complete system it is for simultaneously, you need the option 78 88 999 OP.

This contains:

  • a Powerdynamo advance control unit 7295
  • a suitable ignition coil (this coil differs to the coil you have received with your 2 stroke system which can not be used with this advance setup)
  • instructions of how to setup and wire the new material

If you modify an existing system:

(if you ordered the kit as an option within your system we have already made the correct markings!)

You will need to change the position of the ignition marking on the base plate of your Powerdynamo system. And you should note that this marking no longer is showing some ignition moment, but top dead center (TDC)!!

  • if you have a crankshaft turning clockwise when you look at the rotor you will need to place the new marking 168° clockwise to the marking we did set on your system without advance control

Please note that the original marking may be 120° different to what you see here, depending on through which opening the stator wire goes.

  • if you have a crankshaft turning anticlockwise when you look at the rotor you will need to place the new marking 194° clockwise to the marking we did set on your system without advance control

Please note that the original marking may be 120° different to what you see here, depending on through which opening the stator wire goes.

Adjust ignition timing:

Bring the piston into top death centre position. In this position you have to fasten the rotor in a way that the newly made marking at base plate aligns with the rotor marking.

Adjust advance curve:

Here are listed all 7 pre programmed curves and the belonging switch positions (if you gave us special curves we would have added an additional paper with these curves!):
